10 Tips to Enjoying a Guilt-Free Holiday Weekend

Anyone else wanting to stick to their goals this holiday weekend but still ENJOY themselves??

I used to be the person that TOTALLY over did it at every single holiday party. Desserts, drinks, you name it - I ate it!  But just in this past year I've really learned the art of self control and yes, it is an art form!  It's certainly not easy, I've been on this clean eating journey for about 6 years now and this is the first I can confidently say, "no thanks" I don't need that.

Holiday weekends are certainly a trigger but I've definitely learned to overcome it while still truly enjoying the good old comfort foods I love so much :)

Here’s some of my tips:

1. Drink LOTS OF WATER!! Staying hydrated is a huge key to weight loss and keeping our bodies healthy. Often times we overeat simply because we are dehydrated. Rules of thumb, make sure you're drinking half your body weight in ounces of water each day.
2. My Holiday BBQ plan —> avocado burger, no bun, fruit salad, and a little dessert.
3. If you must have a drink stick with vodka and tonic - something sugar free or limit yourself to 1 glass of wine!
4. Get up and play with your kids, run around, go swimming, go for a walk but whatever you do - stay active!
5. Don’t starve yourself - eat before you get to the party and eat a normal 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.
6. Go public and Make sure everyone at the party knows you are living a healthy lifestyle so you don’t have to feel awkward about not eating all the junk or better yet just tell them you’re allergic!
7. Focus on portion control - don’t completely deprive yourself of the treats you want but just don’t over do it!
8. Remember, you can have FUN and not eat like crap - you’ll feel better about yourself on Tuesday.
9. If you know you’ll be tempted to eat dessert be the person who BRINGS dessert to the party and go for a flourless brownie or avocado chocolate pudding (no one will know its healthy shhhh!)
10. Get a good workout in at the beginning of your day and remember you can enjoy your day and a few treats without falling off the wagon.

Have a fabulous weekend friends! Happy Memorial Day!

xoxo
